How does one go about switching from the traditional ASIC Design teams (Fabric/Networking/IO) to companies looking to design ML chips ? From the design point of view it seems like ML/AI chips are simple accelerator chips, just like any other design blocks (crypto/regex/media etc). Is there some special skill that teams (Groq/Wave Computing/Inferenetia) look for while hiring for their design positions? Is there future in such AI/ML design jobs or is it just a bubble?

60% hype; 40% truth.
I do think these custom chips will get much more traction in next decade, there are very few improvements in the generic architecture such as CPU/IO/networking/caches and GPUs.. isn’t that why all the software companies wants to make chips to translate their algorithms into accelerators!!! With the moors law ending area and power scaling advantages and new process node efficiency and speed boost is going to end as well.. don’t just think about it , go for it!!
