Help: Salary Hike Negotiation Techniques
My first post here. YOE: 7.5 TC: $89,000
I started my RFTE PM position with Lam Research in 2018 with 4 YOE.
I started on F1 Visa and then got my H1B done in 2019. On H1B since then, on average I got 2% hike every year. Making average hike in past 3 years as 6%
When H1B kicked in CA taxes increased by 7.65% for me. Therefore, I was making less than the salary I joined at in 2019.
So to get a huge raise, I worked really hard , literally my a** off during pandemic aligning with my boss for everything the way I am expected. Working 10-12 hours a day and even weekends sometimes.
Now, during appraisal cycle I again get approximately 2% hike in Year 2021. Whereas my colleague who joined with me same YOE, Same Education, same team, under same manager manages to get 7% hike with promotion.
Seriously pissed off, approached my manager saying total hike during last 4 years have been way less than my expectations and due to H1B additional taxes, I am making less than 1% more than what I was making when I started working in 2018.
Reply from Manager: We don’t care about in hand salary, TC has increased for you by 25% since 2018 as cost of immigration lawyers etc have also increased. We are filing I-140 for you and its not cheap!!! I am like shut, no answer.
Now I am willing to go for a follow up meeting with her and talk to her about hike with some valid points? That is where I need help from my Blind Community! What should I tell her ?
She has promised me promotion next year with better hike, just verbal! No one knows how true!
I feel so demotivated that I am not able to concentrate on my work nor my upcoming certification exams.
