Hey I’m posting this because my boyfriend works here. I’m hoping someone will see the injustice of this company. Don’t ever work for this shitty company or this shitty CEO. Since acquiring a new CEO, Xilinx now requires employees to work Saturdays regardless whether or not they have work to do. This is really stupid because my boyfriend comes in 8:30am and has to work with India so he has to stay up often until midnight. We had a dinner last night (Sunday) and he couldn’t come because he has meetings with India. Even when he finished all of his work for the week and doesn’t have work on Saturdays, he’s still required to come in just to “twiddle his thumbs”. Not having a proper weekend has created many problems for him. He is going through depression and since he’s still on visa, he feels like his hands are tied. He only plans to stay at this company until he has a proper visa. He has been seeing a doctor and they advised him he should stop working on weekends. It’s the cause of his depression but he is afraid of his job so he doesn’t stop. I’m afraid for his emotional well being since he’s been working so much. If anything happens to him because of overworking in this environment, I’m going to make sure to sue the shit out of Xilinx.
What’s your “bf’s” TC?
Xilinx tc low af. He’s only staying because of visa. I would say half as mine.
Less than 6 figures?
Can't believe I applied there. That sucks. Thanks for posting this I will circular among my friends who are looking for jobs. Is it hardware of software?
It was hardware. I think they take advantage of foreigners still on visa. Please like and share to all your friends to get the word around.
This only happens when executives fail on their vision for the company and has no way of achieving growth. They think this will solve their problems. Not!! I’ve worked for both hardware and software startups for years and I’ve never had to go through this. If CEOs think they should force employees to work like this in order to achieve growth for the company then they should be fired
False. They’re not. Amazon doesn’t require people to work Saturdays. Amazon has a vision for where they’re going. Number of work hours doesn’t translate to results. CEOs are paid for having a vision for the company. They’re not paid for forcing employees work on Saturdays. It’s a form of micromanagement by CEOS who have a small penis. Employees suffer from their CEO’s insecurities. He’s just a new CEO so feels like he has to prove something.
never even heard of this company
Since when everyone is so fragile or sensitive? I feel your bf’s pain but blue collar workers regularly work on weekends and they seem fine. Don’t get me wrong I once worked for a company who did something similar but you have to understand that instead of feeling sad or depressed about the fact why not hustle and make a name out of himself. I have seen something similar here in bay area too where if life gets tough people get sad and sobby that life is hard for them. What happened when people/engineers were rock solid and if life got tough they got even more tougher and beat the shit out of that problem.
Working Saturdays is not for everyone. Some people can and some people can’t. Forcing people to work Saturdays is not the answer to solving anything. Most of the time he doesn’t mind if he has to work Saturday. But sitting around and not having work to do is frustrating. Blue collars don’t have a choice and that’s why they do it. Tech workers do have a choice and we can choose not to have to deal with shit.
Also I want to add if doctor recommends him to not work on weekends he can take that in writing to his manager and things can be changed accordingly for him. Like maybe he can work from home. I am pretty sure there is a federal law protecting workers mental health.
> This is what he doesn’t want. He doesn’t want to bring attention to himself and not create any noise. He’s afraid that if he brings it up to HR he will lose his job in this work environment. And that is exactly why the company is doing this. Lot of people would be surprised to see how a little (polite) pushback goes a long way.
You can do this as long as you’re not on visa. When you are on visa and at the mercy of your company, you definitely don’t want to create noise and bring attention to yourself.
Is this legal? The EVP of the company sent an email officially requesting all the employees to work on saturdays and not to plan for thanksgiving and christmas. I am not kidding here, they have some balls putting this in an e-mail
Completely legal but way to go to bring down the morale of employees. What they’re saying is they don’t give a f** about you
My wife works there and we didn’t plan for any weekends over the past we few months, I sincerely hate this company. The worst part was, no talk of compensation, except for free lunch
My bad, looks like it’s for entire Engineering teams
