Microsoft low balls industry hires. This is a well known fact.

To all the managers: Do you think we are fucking fools who can't read what is written on Blind? Your good industry hires will not stick around in Microsoft because of this.

Microsoft needs to lose good industry hires when the project is at a crucial time to understand the cost of doing this.

Fuck you Microsoft hiring managers. I hope you and your fellow EM/PMs feel the heat when we leave.

Everyone does that. People do leave all the time and nobody gives two hoots. You need to calm your socks.

You understand how a business works? Human capital is the largest cost to any employer.
They want to pay you the least amount they can get away with. Clearly, people are taking the “low-ball” offers and hence it’s working. If you don’t want to have such offers, get a competing offer. It’s a free market. If you’re going for a higher rate, they’ll pay more.

Explain to me this: would you buy a Tesla for 35k when the going rate is 30k? No. Same with businesses.

I've seen anywhere between 20k to 75k for industry hires.

    • @stonks - here’s the thing tho ... every new Tesla ( for a particular model ) is the same so that’s why no one will pay more than the market rate ... but OP is talking about firms low balling lateral hires while bestowing stellar sign ons on kids who have 0 experience

Gmail is a great product in terms of MAU, but exchange server is a much better product in terms of business income. People from web companies only understand MAU, that’s why they build company who never going to make money, like Uber.

Not necessarily, I was an industry hire at Microsoft before and I negotiated the hell out, especially the stocks and bonus components almost doubled them, and I didn't even have a counter offer
