At what point do you decide that you have earned one? I really want to buy the 911. But I don't want folks to judge me or co-workers to think I make too much. I have always been a car guy. At what point do you decide you have earned one? I'm afraid I'll end up being one of those guys buying when in their 50's and everyone will think I'll going through crisis.

I got a used red cayman. not a 911, but gets a lot of attention. I'd say if you enjoy it, who cares about what people think.

    • Those subsets of car buyers are the ones who like cars mechanically and try to get the most out of it by modding it. Most sports car buyers don't know or care about how cars work. And don't really use the 400 hp since they only commute with it.

    • I agree that both of those car buyer types exist. I still disagree with timechange that status is the primary reason for purchase... it may be for some but it’s not always or possibly even mostly the case. There is also a middle ground for the people who like cars, don’t really mod them or work on them beyond what they get from the factory, and yet also don’t only commute with them.

There’s an entire job family at manufacturers for forecasting sales, figuring out how a new model might perform from a sales standpoint, understanding how the brand it’s being sold by will impact sales, identifying what types of people are going to buy and why, etc. There are a lot of nuances.

Do you really think you’re that important to people? They won’t care about what car you drive. Plus a 911 is nothing crazy, you’re not buying a Pagani Zonda, they’ll probably notice it the first time then forget about it. Buy what you want, if you love cars and want a 911 just do it

Buying a high end car is a dumb decision. It will depreciate, it will scratch, it will need maintenance, it will need insurance, and you’ll pay for all of that.

Ty I love my Civic. And I sleep well at night knowing that if I scratch up my car it’s no big deal

    • I try to prevent scratching up my car but if it gets scratched up then I don’t really get heartburn about it. You can own a more expensive car and still have that mentality. I spun my car once and ended up getting a nice set of scratches. Most of them buffed out.

Just buy it. One of my friends is at 175 TC and drives a Carrera GTS.

I am a watch guy and bought a "high end" watch. No-one except watch people notice or care, especially if you're in the valley.

  • How old are you? If you are less than 40 and have no plans to retire till 60, you have plenty of time to save for retirement.

I don’t believe in life after death or re-incarnation or shit. So this is the ONLY life you will live. Might as well live it in a manner which makes you happy.

Don’t buy a car for someone else’s approval. Buy it for your own enjoyment and don’t give a fck about what others think.

Just make sure you can afford it, that’s all

    • Who says I am missing any of it?

Plus, I don’t drive it for the cool factor. It’s a really fun car to drive. I used to hate the handling of my other sedans. This thing accelerates like no ones business.

You see I am enjoying life. What’s the point of saving up to enjoy life when I am old? Also, I am not selling my first born to drive to so it’s not like I cannot afford it. Could I have retired earlier? Sure. Do I want to? Heck No!!

Okay makes sense. Was just curious to know your perspective.
I test drove it and like it, but still not excited enough for the cost because I've a ton of other interests that I'd like to try on unpaid sabbaticals
