Hi! I was curious to see which one more experienced software engineers would pick.
Samsara:
- Seems to have a higher engineering bar, both from the interviews I had, as well as from a cursory LinkedIn search, with lots of ex-Google/Facebook/Apple/Tesla/MIT/Berkeley folks.
- The interview process felt more personalized. I had good discussions with my recruiter, interviewers and eventual manager.
- Modern tech stack, with lots of Go and Typescript. May be well placed to switch to other upcoming companies in the future.
- Option of switching to Atlanta, which seems like a nice city (though I'm not sure if it's overlooked compared to their main SF office)
Amazon:
- More famous among laypeople
- Pay is about 10% higher (though both pay very well - 10k vs 9k TC/month)
- I'm sure the L6/7 engineers at Amazon are 10x geniuses, but it felt like the new grad/intern hiring bar is a lot lower. Among the undergrad population at top schools, Samsara seems to have a lot more 'clout' than Amazon
- Lots of Java, which I'm not too keen on
- D.C. location
Main factors to consider are job satisfaction and full time recruiting opportunities.I already have another relatively well known company on my resume, and got a decent number of callbacks this year, so does having Samsara on my resume vs Amazon even matter much?
#samsara #amazon #faang #unicorn #swe

Why are you not keen on Java?
โModern Tech Stackโ with Go lol.
I already have experience with Java/C++. Would ideally like to branch out and get experience in a new language so that I can pass more resume screens in the future.
