Snap Vs Uber

L3 offers at $245k uber
L3 offer at 250k Snap.

I currently have 2 yoe and TC 190k. I can’t decide which company to go for. I think Snap has more money but how is the wlb and also I keep hearing that it takes very long to get promoted. While at Uber people get promoted to L4 in a year or so.

Both are security roles.

Uber has abundant opportunities to either grow quickly or take your time learning at a slower pace

WLB allows you to choose the path that fits you best

Worked at both companies. From what I've heard/seen, you'll probably get to 5 sooner at Uber than Snap

WLB is generally better at Uber than Snap.

@tcMax I'm at Uber now and can confirm 560k - 590k first-year TC is typical for L5A (just ask anyone who actually works at Uber). And 400+k first-year TC is typical for L4. I didn't add my offer to levels.fyi because I'm not sure how to enter front loaded equity and yearly stacked refresher. I'm sure many others didn't either. Now if someone got a similar package like I did, and entered the initial equity grant/4, omit yearly stacking refresh, and omit the signon bonus, the 4yr average would be around 460k but that's not the whole story.

WLB can definitely vary from team to team but I've definitely heard more people complain about WLB at Snap (myself included) and more people appreciate their WLB at Uber (myself included). Does there exist a team in Uber that has worse WLB than a team in Snap? Sure. But given the data points I have, I believe you are more likely to have better WLB at Uber than Snap.

  • Money is usually not the highest priority at an early stage if I was you. Try to get promoted to 5 asap
