Google India Program Manager - Recruiter says before start of interview process - I am above their pay level?
So, google india is starting interview process for google cloud, delivery center, customer success, program manager role with me.
Recruiter upfront while scheduling the rounds and running me through prep session, tells me, that I might be put in L4, and since my current compensation is 51 lakhs per annum, I am already above their L4 band salary range so they might not even be able to offer me what I am making right now!!
I dont know how to react or even go through the interview rounds.. I told her I want to aim for L5, because I am already in leadership roles in program management from last 6 years, out of 12 years of my total work experience, that too in all tier 1 silicon valley companies!
Recruiter changed her track after this, but she kept saying if you earn 100 and google’s range for that is 80, you will only get offered 80!
I am genuinely stumped, is it really so bad, the recruiter said the best they might do is match my current compensation!
This is ridiculous, upfront even before going through the interviews.
Please advise!

I have had experience going through 6 rounds and then landing in the situation where they were not able to match up with my expectations.
Felt like waste of energy and effort and also lost the chance for next interview for 3-6 months.
Google certainly is an goal I want to reach, but not by downlevelling myself, my title, my pay so much! I will update here what they finally offer me even if I dont take it! 🙏🏻
