Just got an offer for E1 new grad role. Location can be LA or Seattle. (Which one would you choose and why?) Role: E1 Base: 115k Bonus: 11.5k Sign-on: 10k No stocks Please evaluate this offer and comment if there is room for negotiation? #nordstrom
If it's the same salary for both the locations, Seattle is the best option mainly because of the savings in tax.
No RSU? It’s not amazing but isn’t bad either compared to all new grad offers. I don’t know how good it is for Nordstrom specifically. I’d choose LA because of weather alone. Plus it’s a bigger city and doesn’t have the tech monoculture. Taxes are higher but will be offset a bit but slightly lower CoL.
Seattle COL is higher? I'd imagine LA would be the higher one here.
I checked some online calculators and they’re all over the place. Some say 5% higher in LA and others say 8% higher in Seattle. It’s close enough that your personal choices and lifestyle will matter more so I’d ignore CoL as a factor.
Got it. I’ll do that. Is it likely that they’ll raise the base (I won’t give them a number) if I negotiate? Or would they just rescind the offer if I negotiate?
Okay that’s what I had in mind as well. I checked levelsfyi and I think they’re similar offers to mine. I just wanted to see if they’d go 5k higher on base.
Stocks?
They didn’t offer any stock
