TC is higher than where I'm at now but I'm wondering about tech industry perception of Accenture (do people really join Accenture mid-career from tech?), exit opportunities and WLB. #Accenture #tcorgtfo

It depends the group that you’re in and your career goals. I came from Amazon because I was tired of being middle mgmt with incompetent leaders who had political agendas. I was considering going the CTO/CEO co-founder route eventually so wanted a broader understanding of different business models and industries. Also sales. I had zero sales experience and figured I could use that knowledge to help sell whatever product or service of my own eventually. (I’ve since realized I don’t want to do service work at all!) I work with C-Level execs and/or their direct reports frequently now, and have gotten a much broader understanding than I would have had slogging away at Amazon. Plus, Amazon was always going to be there. But. I also know there are a lot of groups at Accenture building Java apps and offshoring to India. Not my experience.

Now it can also be tiring getting the rug pulled out from under you by clients who lose funding, or lose their leadership’s trust or for any other host of reasons interrupt you. And then some projects that sound like they’ll be with new and exciting tech end up being much less than that initially. But there is a lot of really cool work going on and good thing is as you learn to navigate, you get better at spotting the opportunities you want and the people you want to work alongside. Overall great place to gain experience and exposure. While Amazon felt more stressful I want to believe it’s also because I was younger and hadn’t figured out how to manage my time as well as now. But WLB is pretty much the same. Your brain can only be productive for so long without rest.

That said, even with good base, there are nooooo stock options. And so until my side hustle pops I’ll probably go back to Big Tech to go double my salary 😆

Nyc here as well. Had the same counter offer, 385. It was a mix of 270K base, 80K 1yr retention bonus, 35K perf bonus. No stock options, it will undergo approval process. They usually give that to MDs. I have the path to MD, but I don’t like the work anymore so I went to tech. But I gained a lot of customer experience from consulting. Had about 200+ customer engagements when I left

No, people don’t join Indian sweatshops mid career from tech. That would be a very, very strange move.

  • I second being in tech is where ppl want to move to. Exit opps are better. I wouldn’t leave tech to join. I’d leave to join tech

  • Leaving Accenture to Big Tech. I don’t really get the sweatshop reference. Yes we do some boring implementation work and some outsourcing (don’t know many doing this) but we also do some really cool work.

  • Lmao, please don’t leave tech to join ACN…it’s the other way around
