Currently at L5 and it’s been 5 years since my last promo. Front end engineer with 15+ YOE, TC 330k. Manager gives me tons of flexiblity and I can work from any office or remotely as long as I get my work done. Job is super chill. I still get to do fun work and my coworkers are mostly cool. I want to move to a lower cost of living area for a better family life with less stress. Promo path is dire. Mostly have been CME or EE during perf, so next promo is far away. Should I stay or try to find something better at another company? Don’t want to live in the Bay Area, NYC or Seattle.
Denver and Nashville. Try Amazon Nashville. You can get a family house for $600k in a good area.
330k TC while being able to work remotely most of the time sounds really great. You also seem satisfied with team and project. Getting a TC bump worth the risk outside of Bay, NYC and Seattle seems very unlikely.
If you can work remotely from any office, what's stopping you from moving now while continuing your current job?
My main issue is promotion. If I go remote then it’s unlikely I’ll ever get promoted again. However, moving to a lower cost of living location means a higher standard of living. I’m a bit torn on deciding between the two, hence the poll.
Makes sense. Do you have any idea of the sequence of events and timeline leading to your promotion? If not and there aren't any after your best efforts to define them, you might be wasting time hoping for one.
take your TC to the Denver office lol
Not doable.
