I started my career in manufacturing and the pay doesn’t even compare to tech.
Tech is overhype.
When I interned at a manufacturing company my hourly was $27 and early pay day they included a 15% gain of that weekly earning.
During the winter time they gave me profit sharing which is just because they performed very well this was a lump sum I made about $20k total with my internship I made 90k since the internship lasted from summer to spring.
First position after college was with manufacturing again and base pay was $85k no sign on or anything but. They had two bonus incentive profit sharing and gain sharing. Total with the end year bonus my tc was $200k all cash . On top of that I qualified for their stock purchase plan with just which was matched at 10%. 401k was marched at 7% and fully vested right away.
I walked away with $350k just a year and half working there. But because of FOMO I wanted something else joined a “tech” company and their are no bonus as such.
Sadly can’t even find a position in manufacturing anymore.
Current tc: 110k

Most manufacturing is $80-90k out of school and doesn’t have those kinds of bonuses
