YouTube just blocked FireTV in Google Amazon row (for realsies this time)

https://www.slashgear.com/youtube-just-blocked-firetv-in-google-amazon-row-for-realsies-this-time-01513281/ Google released a statement which included the following: “We’ve been trying to reach agreement with Amazon to give consumers access to each other’s products and services. But Amazon doesn’t carry Google products like Chromecast and Google Home, doesn’t make Prime Video available for Google Cast users, and last month stopped selling some of Nest’s latest products. Given this lack of reciprocity, we are no longer supporting YouTube on Echo Show and FireTV. We hope we can reach an agreement to resolve these issues soon.” Amazon replied, via Variety, with the following statement: “Echo Show and Fire TV now display a standard web view of YouTube.com and point customers directly to YouTube’s existing website. Google is setting a disappointing precedent by selectively blocking customer access to an open website. We hope to resolve this with Google as soon as possible.”

The app was never sanctioned in the first place. Amazon is abusing their market position to push their own products. If Google did something similar they would get hit with an antitrust law suit.

They're blocking web browser access

What? Pretty sure it works fine of you just open the browser. They blocked the custom web app wrappers that Amazon built, which made it seem like it was a real app.

That is probably because buyers don't care who sell the product. They just know they bought it on Amazon. It is Amazon's brand at stake, not the seller's

It is also obnoxious that Google wants to be the be all and end all of data but only present it to customers on "approved" devices. You did it to Windows Phone and you're doing it again. Don't forget that anti trust lawsuits are a real thing.

Interesting how this topic about fair business practices raised a day after the net neutrality is dead.
