You're being recruited and flown out by an executive before discussing comp - what do you do?
I'm transitioning out of GE and have had lots of calls lately, with a few progressing.
Out of the blue, an EVP calls me and wants me for a leadership role that I haven't applied for.
We talk for ten minutes and then his EA schedules my flight and car service (with permission). I'm joining him and his executive team in another state during their leadership meetings.
Four interviews on day one, three on day two. All with heads of various functions at the company (well-funded, ~$400m annual revenue).
I've had one somewhat similar situation, but I'm curious how you would handle comp, negotiation, etc.
It is clear that I'm their top choice, hence the recruitment, but how would you handle the situation?
- Don't throw out any number first?
- State salary expectations (current comp plus x%)
- Discuss current comp
- Something else
What would you do?
