Do MS CS or MS Stats/Operations research

"Data science" degrees are marketing gimmicks.

lol, a molehill that thinks itself a mountain and wants to police language on an anon forum, lol.

“ Plus you lost me at hire and fire since it's clear you also have a little napoleon complex. ”
that’s literally the most important job a manager can do. Stop lashing out because someone called your degree low value . If someone said that to the typical barista at Starbucks earlier in their lives, their lives would be objectively better. Really, defensiveness is not a good look, and stop pulling pyramid-scheme shit on gullible kids (let me sell you think wonderful thing that I have)!

    • I think we disagree on what a manager's job is, let's just leave it at that.

Computer Science, because DS is just a fancy name for Statistical Analysis. You can go ML track in CS.

If you are a US citizen then don’t do masters. You can learn more by working.

DS manager here. Do a CS or OR or Stats degree. Take whatever ML courses you need to. Code a fair bit. Do a course on algorithms and another on days structures. You’ll have much greater optionality.

Like everyone else said, go with CS with some applied stat and ML classes. I did the same in PhD in EE. DS is often used vaguely for job descriptions too.
