Curious about the difference in pay for jobs at the same SWE level between US and Canada.
Are there any companies which pay almost the same in Canada and US.

Your pay isnt reflective of the worth of your work. It's reflective of the local hiring conditions.
It remains toughest to hire quality talent in the USA.
Canada not so much.
US (Seattle): 264,000-400,000 USD
US (Bay): 300,000-470,000 USD
Canada: 234,000-360,000 CAD
The difference, in 2020, was take the US comp for Seattle, convert to CAD at 1to1 fx, and then subtract about 10% or so. Adjusting for actual FX, it's about 30-40% less I think. Gap is much bigger vs Bay area comp.
Amazon (and others) pay well in Canada compared to smaller companies, but not when you look at US salaries. Especially as the cost of living and taxes are higher in Vancouver vs Seattle. But comp is 30% less.
This huge gap definitely sucks and I’d like to see it close ASAP.
