Got an offer for a remote role at Salesforce (home office would be in Dallas). For those who made the move from Bay Area to Dallas - any regrets? My current company is forcing RTO but I refuse to pay so much to rent out in a Bay Area suburb (pleasanton). COL is 55% less in Dallas than it is in the Bay and the remote role offered will be a 17% pay cut. Should I stay in the bay or move to Dallas? Please comment any insight especially if you’ve made this move before or know of someone who has! Also, I’m not into nightlife or any of that - I’ve never partaken in any of those things while in the Bay Area so I’m totally ok with the Texas suburban lifestyle. #tech #salesforce #dallas #bayarea #texas

    • I do sometimes, I travel/vacation quite a bit( 2 airports and cheap flights make it easy). But when I am in NYC, it makes me realize how much more stressful it is to live there especially with kids.

Yeah, I realize my Dallas friends are able to visit other states and travel a lot too. When kids are in the picture, city life is brutal. Texas is def a great place for families

Dallas sucks. Only good if you like suburbs or want that boring life.

I made the move from the bay to Dallas several years ago. With all of the remote opportunities, it's more than worth it.

I personally love Dallas and you keep exponentially more money in the bank. You will make significantly more money than most everyone here. It's an amazing city to live in and if your tc is $300+ you will be able to live just about anywhere you want.

Thank you! I’ve visited before and love it - I have more friends there than in the bay. I barely pocket anything out in the bay with these crazy rental prices and state income tax. I’m a bit early out in my career though (1.5 YOE), would you say I can live well if my base pay is between 80k-95k? (TC maybe around 105k? I’m non tech). I also have 200k+ saved and would like to buy property in Dallas :)

Absolutely, living off of $95k in the bay is nearly infeasible. With that income in Dallas, you’d be able to rent your own 1,500 sq ft town home in an excellent part of the city near all the nightlife and stuff.

I currently lease an insane 3,000 sq ft home in a perfect location for $2,500 a month for reference. A place like mine, interior included, would probably be north of $5-$6k a month in the bay if it even exists.
