Has anyone else noticed this? Any comment or content on YouTube relevant to current affairs, especially if the comments are not in line with what you might expect the Google worldview to be are flagged as spam or violence - even when the content or comment is clearly neither. Is this likely some sort of Google AI?

No... I have not personally experienced this first hand but I don't comment on YouTube videos either. Just curious to learn about different perspectives.

And they pulled out of China claiming it was because of censorship?

You don't think there's an element of de facto responsibility here? Let me guess - there is a higher responsibility to the board's view on what is moral, even though google has an effective monopoly in many areas of communication. I guess this is the mindset that comes from being brought up on news coverage that feels no obligation to be impartial.

OK let's say there is no responsibility - in that case why get squeamish about providing services to a country such as China?

Correct, no need to be squeamish about China.

Wait, what is your evidence for this? Was there an article documenting incidents or are you just speculating?

    • There is currently a controversy started by a big YouTuber where he rightly pointed out a noticeable hypocrisy from an official YouTube statement.

YouTube said they wouldn't play ads on any videos about tragedies no matter what the intent. So videos related to the Vegas shooting with the sole purpose of donating all ad revenue to a charity were demonetized. Yet top trending videos from late night comics that use the Vegas shooting to rant about gun control still have ads playing all day.

It's slightly different from what OP is talking about but is clearly part of the same push for a specific narrative.

      Interesting, didn't know that.

That seems completely different from op's post about ai flagging political comments though, and the first few responses made it sound like it was designed to promote political agenda

I hope they do. Politics should be against TOS on YouTube and on Facebook.
