Biased here but choose a company with impact in the physical world. Think about how big of a deal it is if the product youβd be working on had an outage.
Sure, itβs not for everyone but some people feed off of that. Not naming specific companies but there are some on that list that pay high TC to make the world a worse place (up to personal interpretation).
The outage litmus test is easy. If some of those products had an outage, would you be in a better mental state? For example I love Netflix but if it didnβt work when I wanted to watch it, Iβd probably be doing more productive things.
I think there are two categories here, one is when you are a part of a team that maintains a product that is already making a world a better place here it would be more stressful then fulfilling. But when the team is about creating or greatly enhancing a product whose effect will be largely visible in making the world a better place, would be more appropriate. Besides if you are just fixing bugs or making minor enhancement to the product you aren't making the world a better place just keeping the world a better place.
