Long story short, on a dev plan and not gonna make it. I interviewed and I have a few offers. I am effectively more than doubling my TC with one offer.

Here are my possible options:

1) Resign now giving 2 weeks notice and put this bitter experience behind me.

2) Tell manager to either take me off the dev plan or pivot me. He is not gonna take me off but might delay getting pivot because he needs to do that paperwork plus he just likes to make me misrable enjoying that power trip.
If I get pivot I will have the option of taking a severance that is 3 months of base salary.

My priority now is to make sure my future background checks clear without the involuntary termination tag or Amazon revealing ineligible for rehire tag. Which option should I go for? What does background check reveal? Does it reveal current base pay?

Anyone who went through this, please share 🙏🏼

Current Amazon TC: 200k

Edit: Want to add that anyone going through an unjustified pivot, keep your head high and know that you will land a better opportunity. Amazon forcing you out is a sign that better things await you. Just don’t give up.

Background checks don’t say why you left. Just title/role and dates you were employed for

Disclosing that information opens amazon up to lawsuits. They have 0 reasons why to disclose that you were pipped/dev planned

My information as manager is that if I hop on a reference or background check call with a former manager and that manager tells me he’s not allowed to disclose anything it usually means they didn’t think highly of the employee. Otherwise they’ll always mention that they loved working with the employee and would rehire them at any time. So yes you can always get clues from background checks and they definitely do affect hiring decisions for me

Manager is hoping you leave on your own to save them the severance money and the hassle of documenting your PIP. Don't let them get away with it. Just tell them if they don't think you can make it then just get you an end date and say you won't fight the PIP. At the same time turning up the heat by disagreeing with the manager publicly, and give negative Connections Feedbacks, compare manager to others etc... Don't agree to anything in writing until you see the severance. Be nice to your teammates, but don't share any details until you get your Pivot doc. Some of them might be giving managers info on you.

Make them pay for treating you like this. Get severance or you'll regret it. DM me if you have any question. They won't disclose anything about reason for leaving. They PIP hundreds or thousands every year, they'll get into legal trouble if their disclosure cause people to lose future opportunities.

Totally agree with making life hell for the manager as well. Don’t let him get away with a power trip

Dont tell your manager that you have an offer in hand so please put you on pivot. he might extend the dev list. This way, you will resign on devlist and wont get any severance.

Are you sure that eligibility for rehire is disclosed? My understanding so far from reading various sources is that is not disclosed because of legal issues.

Companies can legally disclose your reason for leaving and eligibility for rehire. However, most choose not to due to potential lawsuits.

  • Even if you leave voluntarily, 99% chance your manager will mark you as URM anyway, so you can't avoid "no-hire" showing up in your BG check. So you might as well, just take the bigger severance.

Just let it go, and live with it. Nobody cares about that during a BG check anyway, they only care if you lied (a lot) or have a criminal record.
