Currently at Amazon and planning to switch to Google or Stripe. Both made good offers. Close to 30-40% increase in TC. Watching the fate of Affirm/upstart and other Fintechs does it make sense to accept Google offer. Is Stripe still valued at $100B after market crash? Please suggest.

Current TC - $420K

Stripe is the best in the game. The depth in their product and the to processes is just unparalleled.
This isn’t a FinTech with some random feature as product.
This is a giant with opportunities unbound.
I am surprised to see you compare it with Affirm and Upstart. Don’t they test your understanding of the firm you are interviewing with? Strange.

Lol stripe connect is trash. I constantly work with companies who are ditching stripe connect for more advanced payments architecture and are desperate for a better UX than forcing each customer to create an account

Run away from Stripe. It’s a worse version of Amazon! Something that I didn’t think was possible!

Heard the quality of code in Stripe was utterly poor compared to Amazon standards. She said she called out on some noobish designs from Stripe engineers which offended them. Probably that’s one of the reasons why some Stripe employees complain about Amazonians. They can’t take it if someone is insisting on high standards

I left Google for Stripe. I don’t regret it in the slightest. There is a greater sense of urgency and the people are all top notch — harder working and more competent than my colleagues at Google (on average). Yes, you will work more hours and probably feel more stress. But if you want to work somewhere that truly embodies the “we haven’t won yet” mantra, Stripe is that place. You’ll also likely learn more there.

Regarding RSUs: yes, they’re recalibrated annually. However, Stripe is more generous with refreshes and performance-based grants than Google is, from my perspective. If you’re a high performer, you will be rewarded.

The two top performers on my team are Xooglers, so there’s an anecdote to counter yours.

I also find it hard to believe that the kind of people who are leaving the cushiness that is Google for a company that is known for its work-hard culture are slackers.

They might not be slackers, but incompetent politicians buddy up with other Xooglers and get away with doing nothing. Some of the least effective people I've seen at Google joined, stripe has real hiring problems maybe that's why they need to fire so many. But you sound like a manager, if so 🤷 but congrats on joining that manager's paradise to say whatever do whatever!

  • Stripe RSU is terrible, you get a fixed amount of money no matter what.
