Hello Blind,
I have been applying for internships this semester, and after some offers, I accepted an offer in Vancouver.

A week after this, I got a verbal offer along with TC details etc. from the recruiter of another position I was interviewing for. I didn't want to reneg my current offer but I said I'd take some time to make a final decision since I had some offers pending.

Meanwhile, one of the interviewers reached out to me today on LinkedIn via inMail, saying it was a good interview and they look forward to having me on the team, etc etc. While their offer is really good, and I do want to keep ties with the company because they're pretty big in Canada, I don't want to reneg the offer I already signed.

What do I say to my interviewer on LinkedIn? That I only had a limited time to accept the other offer and I don't wanna reneg? Or that the other role is more suited for me but I do want to keep ties ... ?

Please help me out!

TC of position I accepted : $4356 CAD / month
TC of "new" position : $3750 CAD /month

If the position is better renege, learn and grow. The company owes you 0 and would drop you in a heartbeat. Be selfish and do what's best for you.

The position isn't actually better for my career long term at all, although the name might be

@spiderm0n So then just tell them you had an expiring offer and didn't want to miss out so you accepted now don't want to renege and be unprofessional. TBH I wouldn't even think much about this, just tell them what you want to say.

the one you signed pay way more. Just tell that to the recruiter, and give them the number that would make you accept. It can be very high, doesn’t matter, you already have a job anyway

That's a great idea, the one I signed is actually better for my career long term though, I'm just wondering what's the best way I can respond to the recruiter and the interviewer on LinkedIn if I don't wanna burn bridges ...

Mind sharing the name of the companies? Or at least the one that's paying less

Yea I thought so too, the current one has FANG level clients which interns in the past have used to break into FB and MS and tries to offer impact worthy projects to interns

  • Just professionally say you are impressed by the company team etc but can’t join at this time. But you are open to connecting and exploring future opportunities with them

How are you evaluating the TC in similar terms? The new position sounds like less money, 25$/hr * 40hr/wk * 4wk/month = 4000$/month < 4356$/month. You’ve already accepted the better paying position based on this math, just tell the open over you’re not available
