For the past few years, I was under the impression that Switzerland was the one place outside of US that pays similarly to US. Now that I look at levels, L5s at Google (by far the largest employer there) seem to typically make something around 320k CHF(~340k USD), which is barely higher than what I make in Canada, but CoL is much higher.
Did something change? Or was just my impression wrong all along and Switzerland was never as good as I thought?

TC 380k CAD (300k USD)

If they’re poor enough to qualify, they can get Medicaid, which is similar in quality to European healthcare because it’s government run. If they don’t qualify for Medicaid, then they probably make enough to buy health insurance if they choose. Or at least, they would have been able to before Obamacare shot up prices and deductibles to ridiculous amounts.

Switzerland was always a HCOL place and the salaries were never that competitive. Many friends in my circle work at top law firms and are a part of the WTO, but the salaries are miserable.

Also, Canadian salaries have caught up in the last 2-3 years. Is your 380k for L6 or L5? (I just cleared the L6 OA)

That used to be very good for L5 1-2 years ago. Canada just caught up a bit and benefited from remote opportunities thanks to covid
