Evry time I see a subpar engineer at one of these three get fired or PIPed out they end up going to Oracle cloud. Oracle is looking for cloud engineers very hard but do they realize they are just getting the big three’s sloppy seconds? How are they going to build a competitive cloud with people who failed out of G, AWS and M? Larry is basically funding severance packages for those 3 companies at this point.

  • People can get PIP'ed due to bad managers or politics as well. You can't generalize like that. Besides people perform differently in different environment. Good evironment and manager can really get the best out of an employee.

True.. they should try that. The only thing is evidence. It's all circumstantial and HR would deny everything to make you look like you are hallucinating. It happened to a good friend couple of years ago. Politics is dirty all over there.

I don't remember what evidence the Uber ladies had but shouting and disparaging emails in this case are easy to capture.

Oracle as a company is subpar to the three you listed. What do you expect?

    • I see someone likes “raining clouds” and horizontal scrolling. You can have your opinion as soon as you run production workloads with > 2k qps on Azure. Try it and then we can talk seriously about “advantages” of Azure.

Which Oracle cloud are you taking about? Is it the one in Seattle? My experience here is that we have a lot of good folks that were burned out from huge AWS operational events, bad managers, folks that got more money than Microsoft was willing to pay, and people that just got bored of being on the same team for 3 years looking for a change. Oracle offered them a change and a raise, so why not test it out?

Of course there is garbage here, too, but I don't think it's common, and it certainly existed at my prior company, too. I don't regret switching, and I was not PiPed out :)

Oracle doesn't promote wfh. But if you wfh more than 1 day every week, then your office space is gone. I heard that some good teams cane from Amazon to Oracle, but I also heard that most went back to Amazon because they were pissed with the unreasonable red tape and lack of leadership.

I'm paid 400k a year as an ic4 (stock appreciated). The double of what i was doing at aws as a sde2. I work 40h a week. I have great coworkers and no fucking dogs annoying the shit out of me when I'm coding.

I don't care if you think we are garbage. You might be right! But I'm having such a good time and I'm going to retire early.

What was the offer worth the first year? I got an ic4 offer in 2016 at $300k (180k base/120k RSU). Turned it down because it was only 6% more than I was currently making. This year at the current stock price I’ll make 3% more at amazon (though amzn stock will like grow much greater than orcl).
