I received a full time offer from Intuitive Surgical for a Manufacturing Engineer-3 Position. Please help with understanding if it’s Fair.

Base-125k (Level 3)
Starting Equity-80k over 4yrs
Annual refresher equity of 40-60k
Joining bonus-4k
Annual CIP bonus- upto 15%
PTO-12days annually
Sick time -3days annually

YOE- 2.5yrs in medical device manufacturing
Background- Masters degree in Aerospace Eng

The prevailing wage for this role at a L3 position according to the Dept of Labor is at 135k

    • Im in the bay area too. Usually public med device companies dont pay much for your level of experience

      Yes, you can find new/pre IPO companies and startup but then there is the questions of WLB and job security.
      All depends on what your priorities are in life.

      Try to negotiate if you can to increase base to $145k and bonus to $10k. See how they response. all the best!! Let us know what happened

    I am surprised that the both of you think it’s a great offer when this is actually a low ball for a Level 3 position. According to the US Department of Labor, the pay band for an L3 is between 135k-157k (source: FLCdatacenter.com). I will decline this offer if not offered 135-140k.

  • Seems to be a crazy nice offer. Intuitive is weird where you cannot negociate PTO/sick time. I'd negociate for the sake of negociate and understanding that the first offer is never the best offer. Try 140k? The worst they can say is no. Maybe they will reach you in the middle and give you 135k + 15k sign on.

      The min should be 135k and upto 157k for a Level 3 position. Search for job code 17-2199.04 and look for your prevailing wage in the area.
