Zillow as first company in tech ?
I got an offer for MLE at Zillow, Seattle, I am not too interested in going for pure SWE roles (That does not mean I did not grind leetcode, I have done 200+ LCs). But I am looking for something with a nice balance between SWE and AI/ML stuff. Is Zillow a good choice ? or should I work for better opportunities ? I am on OPT and will require H1B?

The Apple Seattle office would be a good fit for what you want if you can get an interview. They have both MLE and ML SWE. Both titles are about half ML half SWE work because they have to integrate models into existing software. ML SWE swings a little towards Software and MLE and little bit towards the modeling side, but there isn't a huge difference.
What teams are in the apple Seattle office?
Zillow employee here, we do a ton of MLE with market data. Zestimates also require lots of ML. There are a few new products in the pipeline that we aren’t supposed to talk about that will need a good amount of ML and AI work. There’s definitely enough here to keep you busy.
MLE at Zillow mostly doing SWE work. AS a pushed to do MLE work. So MLE mostly it is just a cool name.
Some people here call Zillow AI “the Wild West”. There is very little infrastructure and support, meaning it’s almost entirely up to the SWEs/MLEs to build whatever they need themselves. For me, it has helped me grow immensely as an engineer because you have so much autonomy. As an organization, it is a total shit show. I find I thrive in more chaotic environments. So it’s up to what you prefer.
I would stay far away. The culture is toxic in most places now.
