Avoid teams with only Chinese or Indians especially with a Chinese/Indian manager
I have an offer with Zillow for a P5 (Principal) SDE. The TC looks surprisingly competitive with FB and APPL. What surprised me more was that the Zillow offer had a 45% refresh of the base comp in the form of RSUs at the end of each year. Is this a real thing in Zillow? The recruiter said something like if I meet expectations every year, I get the 45% refresher. Can someone from Zillow confirm? Current TC: 290 K Zillow TC: 510 K YoE:10 #refresher
The recruiter is lying. There are stock grants as part of your annual review. They are typically nowhere NEAR that big, definitely not for “meets expectations”. I also would love to know the breakdown of your $510k TC offer and what team it’s for, as that is WILDLY higher than anything I’ve ever seen here as a SDE hiring manager.
Probably analytics
What is the breakdown?
Refreshers aren't going to be 45% they are closer to 20-25
Please share approximate base for this offer?
I would only accept an offer if it is working on Zillow Offers or Mortgages. Legacy business like Premier Agent, New Construction, Rentals are being phased out. Ask your hiring mgr to see where you are on "the bridge". If you're not on there, run away fast.
I have an on-site interview for data scientist position with Agent Analytics team. Should I decline it then?
I have a different opinion. The agent business is the solid Cash cow for the company. It's our golden product with steady increase. Offers is on a fast trajectory since it's new product and definitely is exciting. Analytics in agent business will be more mature for sure but I wouldn't turn it down. Non tech here who works with all these product lines as part of my day to day job..
45% refresher every year is not real as others mentioned. For P5, with right skill set and experience I have (as a hiring manager) seen offers upto this TC. Market is hot, competitive for certain skill sets and it's good to close the right candidate at higher TC.
No they lie during hiring to get people in. Really yoy refresher might be lower than that.
45% is crazy. The typical target is closer to 25%, but it's not really anything to do with your on hire grant, every level has its own expected performance grant for equity each year.
My refresher in a non promo year is a lil more than a third of my new hire RSU grant. Typically higher in promo years. I gave a similar range to my team. Non tech team here..
Does Zillow has yearly cash bonus ? What % if so?
No
What is the vesting period of refreshers? Is it 25% or base salary?
How many YOE?
