Zillow vs Microsoft Azure compute
Got 2 offers-Zillow(P3 or P4 level- still negotiating) & Microsoft Azure Compute(61 level).Pay,level given by Zillow(Total compensation-235) is more than MS(Total compensation -190). Whoch one to choose?
I'd bet on MSFT stock outperforming Zillow over the next 5 years, but probably not by enough to make up for $45k per year in TC. Azure is the more exciting product to me but it depends on your interests.
Agreed. And they both are paying stocks in dollar amount. And number of stocks will be calculated at time of vesting. And yes it will not make up for 45k per year.
Lol Microsoft stock beating zillow? Zillow is 9 billion valuation and Microsoft is 800 billion valuation. This would be funny. As much as Microsoft has grown in the last 5 years, zillow has still beaten Microsoft.

I asked but they won't match. Because they can't give me higher than level 61 they say. Also not much difference in base pay. Almost equal. The main difference is in stocks and bonus.

Why haven't you taken the extra 45k?
I don't know what's better for me yet in long term. Which one will have more returns in long term. Azure is hot and booming.

Zillow, Microsoft/Amazon is not even a competition. Reasons: 1)Higher pay and refreshers than Microsoft and amazon 2) do you believe amazon/msft will hit 1.6 trillion easily or zillow hitting 20 billion. 3)smaller company bigger growth 4)More technical challenges, latest tech stack 5)I have been contacted by EVERY top company without even applying, I dont know why you care about the resume. I don't even attend Microsoft, amazon calls anymore. 6) if any of 1 to 5 doesnt convince you join Microsoft
what kind of candidates are you looking for? one with more industry experience in domain areas/ one work on open source as side projects/ general swe with lots and lots of leetcode experience? I hope it’s not the third one cause you made the company sounds fun. but what kind of people/ challenge can one truly expect?
Ok, Zillow is composed of various brands and cities and each of them is different. All I can say is seattle has a lot of amazon and Microsoft influence , sf office is more like facebook and apple and google and Ny is more like bloomberg. So in short: Interview and dev culture is more dependent on location/brand. So all 3 to your question. Zillow sf might suit some people and zillow seattle will suit some. Personally not sure if varying interview process is good or bad, but I'm just saying my answer to your question, since it's not standard compared to other companies.
If the org is azure compete you won't have to worry about being in a tools group. That is a much better job than working on a website for zillow. You could get some good visibility there and get promoted pretty quickly if you do good work. My advice would be to see if Ms will budge on the stock or signing. When I joined they easily gave more stock. They will not change the base salary much. I find it hard to believe that they won't give you a bit more stock as a 61 if you tell them about the other offer and say you will take it if they dont get closer.
How much is the base pay for level 61
I work at Azure Compute. If C# is your thing, you should go for it. Otherwise I'd just go to Zillow.
I have exactly same affinity towards Java and C#. Can't choose based on just language. Thanks for the input :)
