Gonna ask lawyers for sure, but wanted to get some perspectives from folks who did this.

My 140 got approved, I received combo card and they took fingerprint last year. Interview was scheduled on March but cancelled due to covid, no further notice yet. Priority date is current.

Now we are thinking of moving out to a different city. Currently living in Santa Clara county but looking into somewhere in Alameda county since proximity to work isn't as valuable. I heard a few horrific stories where moving delayed green card process by x months because USCIS didn't process address update etc. Did anybody speak to this matter from experience? Trying to figure out what implications moving could cause to green card process when pending i485.

I've seen posts on trackitt.com about this- changing address with a pending 485 isn't the best. That said, USPS can always hold your mail for you, so that would be an option if you move closer to the interview/GC time.

Moving within driving distance to office is OK. Just update your address with USCIS

  • I tried to be safe by not moving. The thing that convinced me was that let’s say after interview your GC is approved and they mail it to the wrong address. And it gets left by USPS there and the building management discards or something. To get a new green card mailed to you can mean filing new documents and to physically have one can take 6 months+ for them to process and ship the new card. And without a physical green card you cannot start a new job and leave the country. So do you want to be stuck for 6-12 months waiting for your replacement to arrive unable to change jobs?
