Does State Farm negotiate new grad salaries from target schools (CS)? (for Software Engineer) Bloomington, IL 85k no bonus thoughts?
85k is within the realms I’d expect for a new grad in a low cost of living area like Bloomington. It is a little low, but only maybe 5k less than expectations. Most new grads also don’t qualify for bonus plans, but you should push for a sign on bonus. Your next role will likely be closer to the 100 + 15% realm within a year or two.
Yes, leverage your other offers and the impact your intern project made (assuming you’re a returning intern). Also leverage that you’re from a top school. We need good talent. I would also suggest your try to get to RE3 level ASAP as it puts you at 100K base. Just FYI there is a bonus, but you’ll get everything prorated based on when you join.
RE3?
That’s a grade level for software developers.
How was the interview
Pretty easy. Behavioral and high level technical. No coding, no whiteboarding
Might depend on the product/location. New grads are starting to be asked somewhat data structure related questions but nothing crazy.
