Obviously Google Zurich is a gold mine. Low taxes, high QoL, Google’s WLB, job security and everything else make this a perfect combination. But what if anything goes wrong and for any reason one might need to leave Google. Are the only option banks, or there’s some hope to get hired as SWE at Oculus, Apple, Microsoft? Even 20% pay cut is OK, but banks pay more like 50% of Google. Is it common that people work there for 10-20+ years because there’s nothing better? Especially if one has a family and is settled in Switzerland. Their system is one of the best in the world, it would be hard to get used to Germany or UK after living there. The standard is just so much higher. Opinions, experiences?
I don't get it! From what I know, if your annual compensation is 200k CHF, then the effective tax rate is 33% and the marginal tax rate is 45%. Isn't this almost the same as say the US, Canada, England and more than India, Singapore!!
200k chf, net pay=around 12k a month. 200k in UK would be around 9500. In Canada you’d get around 10k. So no, it’s not the same.
Afaik, in Zurich, net pay is going to be around 11k a month going by the 33% effective tax rate!
I knew people who worked in banks. They liked it. What tells you it's 50% only?
Interesting. Any details?
I know a couple of folks from Two Sigma (an American company with an office in London, paying extremely well), they were in Zurcher Kantonalbank before. From their stories it seemed they were earning pretty good money even when comparing to hedge fund salaries. 50% would be unusual for some other companies as well. But 30% paycut is not unusual I guess.
Nothing interesting to do in switz besides google. Get your ass to US asap. Trading firms in UK would be next best thing, but they too pay better in US
I really don’t want to go to US
Why not? Its the best place to make money today. You don’t have to settle for life there. Go for a decade, come back with bags of money to wherever your heart desires
Job security? I understand Switzerland is more like the US and less like the EU.
He’s talking about google not Switzerland in general. Google is very slow at pipping and firing people that’s true
