Was checking out TC for oppurtunities in UAE thinking TC will be really high and there is no tax. Greatly dissapointed. Engineers are really underpaid there. Wonder why? #uae #dubai #careem Blind Tax: >500k
talents and environment
What does the TC look like over there?
Supply and demand. The visa process is way easier than the US and Canada.
No taxes. Slave laborers from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh. There are lot of poor educated people in the world. Not all can go to the US, so they go to Gulf.
I thought golf was a rich people's game
Well, there was an obvious typo.
What was your source for TC in UAE and for what positions? UAE or Middle East in general is still catching up with all the Tech boom. They are always behind by a 5+ years. There wasn't any startup culture until recently. After Amazon acquired Souq and Uber acquired Careem, more startups are springing up and causing the demand for talent go up as a result. Salaries may also go up in the future.
My impression it's mostly IT support kinda jobs for local industry. Can't think of any tech company from UAE
They aren’t a tech hub. They have a long way to go. You’ll find higher salaries there in the BFSI sector. Also, online data for Dubai is very unreliable. A lot of salaries there are discretionary depending on what “country” you’re from. You’ll find this only once you talk salaries with a recruiter at the offer stage. Local or white expat? You’ll get paid better. Indian subcontinent immigrant? You’ll get underpaid. It is unfair but it is what it is. Exceptions are there but just generally speaking, this is how it works.
It really depends on the companies. Western companies will usually pay more there. Although some local companies such as Emirates pay a lot apparently.
