Seriously, considering it but I just hit my 30s and not sure if it is worth it. But it is my dream to become one of these elite people..

Anyone here an L6+ (earning a million bucks) in FNG or similar without a PhD or Masters?

PhD = accumulating debt instead of making money

How do you even suppose those two things are related? Your success as a SWE has nothing to do with where you went to school nor the degrees you have.

Absolutely not. What i recommend is befriend a few Principal SWE’s and ask for them to be your mentor. That way you are able to get real feedback on areas of opportunity to help elevate your skillsets and performance.

Oh I completely disagree, I’ve been in this exact situation multiple times, both on the mentoring end and the mentee end of it. I don’t know why that’s hard to wrap your head around lol. For context I am currently E6 (infra) at fb.

@facebook I’ll give it a shot and update you with my sob story. 🤪 You are a good person to mentor folks without expecting anything in return, I hope our PEs have the same attitude

  • Not needed at all. Can only hurt. Research mindset can hurt engineering practical approach. I have seen number of PhDs working in engineering that were implementing fancy paper algorithms instead using straight forward approach with better wins.
