I am a swe backend with less than 1 year exp and aspire to work in FAANG.

From career growth point of view is it better to spend more time learning more about core practical engineering aspects, frameworks, system design vs keep grinding DS Algo and LC.

Please suggest ideal ratio in comments.

They don’t test you on these core engineering principles. They test you on leetcode style questions. While it makes sense for an engineer to learn to be a better engineer, you might want to wait off on that.

Once you have your foot in the door at a company that you love, that’s when you solve just one or two problems a day and focus on core engineering.

    • You can’t say that outright. Some companies do test the other part. It’s best to devote some time to the core engineering skills too else you are in for a surprise.

Maybe. He will still be learning this at work as he goes. He is a fresh grad and wants to work at FAANG. Most FAANG companies focus on basics for junior roles.
