I was just wondering about non tier 1 companies in seattle. How is expedia, I heard they pay low. How low is the pay and how is the culture ? Anybody from tier 1 companies at expedia, share your experience

  • I don't think on an "hourly" basis you would be taking that much of a paycut.

Expedia has 3 comp bands per title. The ranges overlap about 2/3s for the title changes on each side.

Here's the base salary range for a senior SDE:
    $112,000
    $134,500
    $156,500
    $179,000

An sde2 would be about $95000 to $156,500

Cash signing is kinda low but can be negotiable.
RSU sign if you perform well in the Interviews but nowhere near the tier 1s.

    Bonuses run about 12-22% target
Stock options or RSUs for merit as well.

coming from Amazon you will take a big hit financially.

Employee quality in engineering is mediocre but you will find some gems.

Expedia likes to pay the median/average for the area. As a result you end up with a lot of average/below average devs. Overall a pretty relaxed gig and culture

at a level to level comparison coming from amazon, you'll take a drastic paycut (both base and overall compensation), but as long as you dont mind having to fix other peoples code, the atmosphere and people are pretty awesome. very chill.
