A Computer Engineering junior here, I didn't find any relevant sub reddits like r/cscareerquestions or r/csmajors which is specifically targeted for Indians and I'm new to Blind.

I have been looking for software development internships for the summer of 2021 for a while now. I have applied to over 50+ postings from mid to top product/fintech companies without any success. Out of all my applications, I only got 1 OA, which I did well but it still didn't convert to interviews. I have been grinding leetcode, I have made decent projects, contributed to open source, maintained a high gpa, optimized linkedin profile, tried getting referrals, interned at 2 startups before, and interning at one right now (if experience helps).

Good companies rarely come to our college for placements let alone internships. I'm not salty about people with better on-campus opportunities or even diversity hiring, I'm happy for the people who made it and I'm just hanging in there waiting for that first opportunity.

Most of the students from my college pursue higher education abroad and before I decide between MS and a full-time job, I wanted to intern at a mid-top product based company to know what it feels like working on a large codebase, collaborating with a lot of people, the work culture, etc.

Sorry if it felt like a rant, I'm just lost and need some advice on what should I do to increase my chances of success. The upcoming summer is really crucial for me and my current situation is beyond depressing (ps: nothing suicidal, depression is just a gen-z lifestyle)

  • Are you applying with a referral, you mentioned you tried getting them? How is your resume looking? Is it one page?

Yeah my resume is one page in length and I have revised it multiple times to make it ats friendly but I didn't include any ML projects because I thought it won't help me for swe positions

    • You can try reaching out to recruiters on LinkedIn for each role you apply. Mention your experience, technologies, open source contributions and that you're religiously preparing for interviews in that message. I would prefer cold emailing them if their work email is public on their LinkedIn. Also mention CP ratings if they're good. That really helps.
Always try applying with a referral. Good luck

  • The recruiters bio will be University recruiter / campus recruiter/internship programs at company name. Try to search this on LinkedIn
