Microsoft vs Amazon vs Robinhood

similar TC all for first two years (negotiated ms and amz), then msft/amzn drops to be ~30k lower

rh used to be significantly more prestige/cool product but given what's happening, wondering the current consensus

current tc: 100k (will be doubled by move)

  • Ohh, I don't really know who the hell preferred MS over RH. I worked for both companies, Robinhood is so much better.

    • I haven't gone through promo at Robinhood yet, however unlike Microsoft I see no tenure requirement. Plus, there are two levels per title at Microsoft, which means that you need twice as many promotions.

Eg you are hired by MS as an sde2 at 61 level. To reach senior (63) you need two promotions. The minimum tenure between them is 1 year, recommended is 2 years. Recommended time to go from middle to senior is 4 years

    • Also, polls are kinda useless.

  • Please do not join Robinhood, it is a toxic place. Managers are encouraged to force employees to work more than 50hrs. For the sack of complainance they have all the things in calendar.

Wouldnโ€™t recommend MSFT because of all the proprietary crap that wonโ€™t actually add anything. Most teams at Amazon now build on Native AWS and use a bunch of open source tools like CDK. This knowledge will carry over to your next job.

    • Coke you really break the stereotype of Amazon toxicity, thank you for the good advice and support. sorry things aren't going well for you ๐Ÿ‘. gj getting msft and hope u like it there. it does sound like a kind place. regarding alexa, other blind threads said is toxic and bad wlb (2nd to aws) but could definitely just be the blind amz stigma. not sure if it'd be remote or hybrid yet

I wouldnโ€™t say things arenโ€™t going well for me. I still work on big projects and collaborate. Itโ€™s just annoying that you need to ping people, get on a video call, explain using sub par tools. Weโ€™ve been in this remote first world for 2 years and yet, we havenโ€™t figured a good alternative out for whiteboarding.

The most important part of working at Amazon, and Iโ€™m sure itโ€™s similar for other FAANGs is the relationship you can build with your manager. You need to establish trust.

Amazon and Robinhood are toxic, go Microsoft if you want some WLB or Amazon for TC, but be warned. ๐Ÿ˜Š
