abolish the police

Aug 2, 2019 64 Comments

Call 911 and then cops come, kill you, and laugh over your dead body.

Our lives would be much better and safer if funds went to schools, healthcare and housing for the homeless and living wage jobs instead of police.

Would you like to get rid of anything else while you’re at it? I’m sure we can find some bad apples in the military, judicial system, teaching profession and basically any other industry.

Sounds like a fantastic idea 💡
Any other suggestions, like getting rid of judges or somethings and leave justice in the hands of armed citizens?

We should just have an app with eye tracking to make sure you read the full case, then you can post your vote to the case block chain

I like the idea except the rich and powerful will have more/faster servers.

That’s a very dim view of the problem. Not all cops are bad and you do need cops to enforce the laws.

Let’s start by punishing the bad cops with jail time and / or financial penalties. Too many of bad cops getting it easy. They should be held at a much higher standard.

Fuck financial penalties. Criminal charges and real prosecutions. Bring in prosecutors from other districts if necessary. Don’t let cops investigate themselves and clear themselves of all wrongdoing. Don’t do the crime if you can’t do the time.

^imagine being more upset over my freedom of speech than a murder by police officers.

I’d settle for accountability. Don’t let cops investigate themselves and clear themselves of wrongdoing. Have independent oversight, and zealously prosecute murderous individuals, regardless of whether they have a badge.

Fine. Without law enforcement there’d be no fear to act out in any way you want without adverse ramifications. This would cause everyone to fear everyone else all the time. Do I need to spend anymore effort in this idiotic conversation?

Nope. Thanks for playing. Just trying to inject a little substance into this discussion.

Bro I always wonder why when people post local news articles, they always come from my hometown (Columbus)

Nbc4 and 10tv are popular ones

I guess they are popular on google news. I didn’t want to post the Democracy Now link, coz ad hominem would be even more obnoxious in this case after watching the police video.

We had a world without police or justice systems not long ago.
    It wasn’t good.

Well, it was really good for alpha males.

It sucked for women, and it sucked for men that couldn’t compete.

Do you think women flourish without rule of law? Do you think handicap people flourish without rule of law? How about poor people?

You can’t be this thick, can you?

Policing doesn’t stop crime; it mostly involves pulling people over and looking for drugs, weapons, or parole violations.

What exactly did the officers do wrong? Are the reactions so visceral because they made some jokes? Are cops not supposed to ever joke about all the scum they have to deal with?

And the guy called 911 for help? He’s drinking, on cocaine, at a porn shop yet he somehow needs police to help him? Maybe he should have called an abuse hotline instead. And he was already handcuffed by a security guard when police arrived? (Should we abolish private security guards?) Something doesn’t add up here.

What they did wron was use excessive / needless force. When the guy was already restrained and in handcuffs there was no need to sit on him for 14 minutes.

Insinuating the victim was 'scum' makes you sound like a really sh*tty person

This is just classic victim blaming / what aboutism.

The cops have a tough job and in this case they did not do it well. They obviously used excessive force and we're completely clueless about what effects pinning someone down for that long could have (possibly due to lack of training). I don't think making jokes about the situation is particularly terrible but the optics aren't great.

What did they do wrong? They killed this guy.
      Aug 3, 2019

I didn’t notice the excessive force. Sitting on someone for 14 mins does seems a bit odd if that is what happened but you could probably sit on 1000 people his age and none of them would die so I don’t think they thought they would kill the guy.

The video is pretty sad but we still need a police force. I don't think the officers in this case are terrible people they are just not very smart or good at their job. Hopefully other police forces can learn from this tragic case

Seems like we needed mental health experts, not crowd control and detention experts, in this case.
      Aug 3, 2019
    • Wayfair bnKI45
The cops were called so they had to go. They should be better trained in dealing with people with mental health issues for sure. I'm surprised that with a few of them around one of them didn't stop the needless violence
