1. Problem Solving - probe your logical deduction skills and coding that solution out. Typically you will see problems that may require an “aha” or some sort of deduction. This is (should) never be any brain teaser or puzzles.
2. Data structure and Algorithms - aimed at testing your knowledge on using data structure to solve problems. Typically you will required to use two data structures together to achieve optimal solution. You may also get tested on BFS or DFS. Often this is disguised as a business problem.
3. Logical and maintenance - Aimed at testing your coding good practices like extensibility, open close principals, separation of concerns. This will mostly likely disguised in some sort of business problem and will sound very vague. Don’t lose sight and go for the technical solution then pull back and make sure your code is well written. Remember to write classes down and use OO principals but this is NOT system design so don’t over.
4. System Design - Aimed at testing your ability to deal with ambiguity, design with scale, availability and efficiency. Go beyond just OO practice and talk about database, system interactions, separation of concern AND MAKE TRADE OFFs. Explain your trade off based on what’s being asked.
Each of these categories are done in an hour with 1 or 2 LP questions before asking this. Don’t think that LP questions can be skimmed over, I have seen many times LP answers failed the candidate. PM me if you have more questions and good luck!
