Hi ,
I am planning to switch from Intel to AMD . Both are in the Bay Area.
Current Yoe:2
Tc : 138k base
Bonus :15k yearly
Unvested rsu:65k/4
Grade : 6

Amd offer : 145k
Bonus :~20k yearly
RSUs : 80k/4
Level : L5

Amd offer looks better but they are trying to down level the position . Is it still okay to go with it. This down level is bothering me . Is there anything that I can do or ask about it . The recruiter stays adamant that he cannot do anything to the offer or the level . Please advice . Is it still a reasonable offer ??

Thanks
EDIT: not very happy with the kind of work at Intel and looking for a way out . Don’t want to be there in the current position and not doing the right kind of work .

Intel grade 7 is equivalent to amd senior engineer interms of job responsibilities. So your intel grade 6 will fit into amd engineer 2 which is level 5 at amd.

Intel grade 6 and grade 7 is expremently confusion, having worked my self through grade 5 to grade 9 before working at amd. I can tell you by own personal hiring manager experience that recent offers given by amd at mts will be higher than intel grade 7 and very close to intel grade 8.

AMD has only 1/10th the number of personnel that Intel has so it is completely possible that folks have more responsibilities and again this is group specific ....Some groups currently have significant attrition at Intel you might have to do a lot more than what was required a couple of years back when everything was more stable....But this is not directly related to the grade...As per levels.fyi, MTS=grade7 + some part of grade 8 and SMTS=grade8+some part of 9...

You are gaining < 10% in TC and getting down level

After tax it’s probably 500$ here and there per month so if you like your current Intel team and work don’t bother

      OP
But switching within Intel wouldn’t give me any raise or sign on bonus . I can however perform well and ask for a promo at amd an year later ( manager mentioned that he feels that I can get there soon ) . Am I thinking /going in a right direction ?

Your pay raise is minimal in AMD move

Change in Intel internally, learn more and then do a big move 2 years down the line

L5 in AMD is silicon design engineer 2. Seems not attractive. Base of AMD is good.

Spend a couple more years and grab a 40% jump at least!

Don't join without L6...L5 seems to be the same as grade 5 at Intel which is usually given to ppl with masters and no experience...Just switch within Intel...

All managers will say that to convince you to join...Why can't they offer you level 6 ? Unless they are willing to give it in writing don't go ...I would say keep searching for other openings ... is the new role completely different to ur current role and something that you want to do long term? If that is the case you can go since you can always switch if they don't promote you ...

Also try seeing if Intel will counter your offer...In that way you get your raise and keep the level...and can switch to a different group after a few months ...
