Why Google down leveling FB?

I’m about to crack E7 at FB. Interviewed with G and got L5 offer 😕. Design interview not “good enough” for L6.

I have heard similar from others that they got E5->L4 and E4->L3. Sure, FB promotes easily and some might not have had the time to build technical depth Google is on about 😒. But getting the promo at Meta means you can deliver impact and drive things 🚀 .

Why is Google like this? Their💰is already lower than we pay. See a lot of people join from Google to get shot at more scope and get that bigger paycheck 🤑.

  • OP - You are still at E6. Google doesn’t care whether you are about to crack E7.

    You interviewed for L6 and based on the interview performance (system design) they down leveled you to L5.

    That’s how debrief works..once you get E7 at FB, you will be able to understand how debriefing works.

      C-Street, unfortunately there are a lot of such people in FB. It is ridiculous that there is an option of 'google is fade away'. FWIW, google business is more successfully diversified compared to FB which is just Ads (yeah I understand all shops, AR/VR) etc. Google is diversifying succesfully in Cloud, Amazon has made more inroads in Ads than FB in e-commerce. (I know as well that Amazon is vilified on blind a lot, but hard business facts are they have made bigger success in advertisement than FB's adventures).

      totally true, but since levels at FB are private anyone can make up their level. My point is more “I’m a very solid E6”. Which means Google L6 or reject. Not L5 offer

      I know, but their approach doesn’t make sense at all. they lose great engineering talent to the competition and have a harder time attracting new talent.

      L7+ at G are treated pretty well with low attrition. For L3 ~ L6, they wouldn’t be considered as top talent in Industry and are highly replaceable.
