If my title is Associate SWE/PM, is it okay if I just put SWE/PM as my title on my LinkedIn and resume?

I want to get a better level for my next job, not being downleveled or lowballed. I think levels are generally very subjective so this won’t reflect correctly what my title should be in my next role.

Should I? And why?

It’s LinkedIn, so I’m pretty sure you’re supposed to put “Sr. Strategic SWE/PM | Innovation & Growth Leader”

The reality is that associate pm is generally a training / mentorship to becoming a pm. If you are interviewed and hired under the impression you have X amount of years as a full fledged pm, don’t you see how that might go south during the background check?

My responsibilities and impact are exactly the same with what other SWE/PM in my team/company do. Only the title is different. I already tried to ask for it but they denied. I’m fine with the background check. My only concern is: I’m worried that if my current boss/colleagues looking at my profile, they might judge me?

      >I asked to be made a SWE/PM and was denied

      Doesn’t add up

  • just put associate swe/pm i dont get whats wrong with that. Just put your duties under it if you think people will think youre not doing real swe/pm work.

I want to get a better level for my next job. I think putting this title won’t help me with that. And the actual levels are very subjective depending on each company structure. So this won’t reflect correctly my actual level. What do you think?
