I have offers from Airbnb and Uber. Both in SF
2yoe
Uber software engineer II
152k base
13.5k-27k annual cash bonus
52k-105k annual stock refresh
50k sign on bonus
9600 stock units / 4 years at 409a price (I think this equates ~390k over 4 years. Correct me if I am wrong)
Airbnb L4 SWE:
180k base
57k sign on bonus
90-180k stock refresh
420k stock / 4 yrs at 31b valuation from July 2017 funding round
Future yearly bonus situation is unknown with airbnb. The board approved a 15% cash bonus for 2019 which I included in my sign on above. I am assuming they will continue to offer similar types of cash incentives until they ipo.
Airbnb also has 401k match up to 4% of my base salary, better food and nicer office.
Wondering why you guys think? How are these offers? I am mainly interested in growth/prestige/resume value/impact/Eng quality/wlb/culture and obviously tc. Both teams sound very exciting.

Another area to evaluate on is the engineering challenge.
At the end of the day, Airbnb is a traditional e-commerce marketplace. The engineering challenge does not seem that deep.
Compare that to any of the FAANG:
FB: social graph at global scale
Amazon: logistics at global scale
Apple: technology business
Netflix: content distribution at global scale (15% of bandwidth is Netflix streaming)
Google: obvious.
Compare the engineering challenge at Airbnb vs what youβre doing at FB.
Uber in the other hand has deep engineering challenges:
* real time location of riders and partners
* marketplace efficiency
* real time pricing
* routing efficiency
* bandwidth and device limitations in developing countries.
* real-time distributed systems.
I hope you donβt have any immigration issues unlike some of us here.
