ive been to two amazon talks/events in the seattle area. these are basically hiring events, very similar to career fairs. they invite local experienced professionals, theres a very short talk, basically an intro to the hiring team and some hors d'oeuvres. then mingle time. i didnt see any new grads so far. anyone here get hired from such an event? would love to hear some stories.
I've been to one of these. The food is fucking fantastic. Lots of L7s in the room. It's like fucking surreal. Prob the highest concentration of L7s and higher in a single room outside Amazon office. Not sure why I got invited. Not ready to move from MSFT.... yet
Did they use Eventbrite?
Yeah, the link is actually public, just google for it.
It’s actually considered a win for us if we hire one or two people from these events. They are really aimed at changing the narrative around what’s it’s like to work at Amazon. But the hiring process isn’t any different for someone who heard about a job through an event How we decide to invite people is based on the job types we are aiming for then the recruitment team does one to two souring sessions on LinkedIn until we hit the number of rsvps we were aiming for. If you get invited you should go! You aren’t losing anything, you’ll get some good food and almost everyone in the room is going to be from tech. Even if you don’t want to work at Amazon I think the networking opportunity is worth it.
Thanks for the insight. Actually about to get hired, just was wondering if probability of getting hired is any higher from such events. The experience has been great so far. 👍
Isn't grad recruitment season is already over?
These aren’t aimed at grad students. Invite only events, not sure how they shortlist people. Maybe people who’ve applied in the past but were never considered.
