amazon rehire!

i was at amazon for a short period of time. wrong boss, wrong team. now after 2yrs there is an opportunity. i have been in touch with the HM he is trying to find a way in. He has spoken to previous team and HRBP... wanna know whatvthe process is like? am i put on “no hire” “needs review” how can i know my status? its frustrating cause i wanna know whether i should forget about Amazon cause of an Ahole boss that banned me for re-hire (which there was no issues there, i left on my own will) or should i push back in? an how can i help the HM now to make it easier on him? tc: $200

Teach yourself how to write first.

Yeah... I think it’s more of a cultural mismatch! LOL So what, you feel better about yourself now?

No, because writing is a skill you learn in elementary school.

Why do you think your former boss from 2y ago cares about your situation at all? My guess is they’ve long forgotten about you and won’t interfere.

That’s what I thought. But what I am getting from the HM now is that she hasn’t been successful in his discussions exploring a possible rehire. He had to get feedback from HRBP (which I never met), direct manager and stakeholder peers... all for a job that I left on my own terms.

Sounds like a negotiating tactic. “My job is to advocate for you! Unfortunately your former manager is getting in the way of our offer but I’ll see what I can do to get you the very best TC!”

Speak with the HM and explain the situation, be honest and everything will be fine.

Been doing the exact the same thing.

You were not a strong performer or they’d take you back in a heartbeat. Boomerangs are highly desired. There were issues and while you may not have been pipped or fired, you were considered unregretted attrition. Give it another couple years.

I was there for a payroll and finished 3 of 5 of their entire pipeline for the quarter. It was all praises when I was there and a shock when I decided to leave. So respectfully doubt the performance issues part.

I don't know Amazon, but many large companies ask the manager when an employee leaves if they are a rehire or not. If your former manager marked you no-hire then you will have an uphill battle against HR, new HM, and their chain of command to get an offer.

Amazon sako Oct 26, 2019

You are only marked no rehire if you exit while being coached for a performance issue, whether on an actual PIP or a less formal dev plan (or fired for cause for an HR or legal violation). You can't be marked no rehire no matter what your boss thinks if HR had you listed as in good standing on the day you resigned. If you were on a performance plan your manager can decide whether you are no rehire with a strong bias towards no rehire.

Got it. Thanks for the reply. Do you think if all goes well, I have to go through the interview process again? No way I can bypass that?

Amazon Strong☕️ Oct 26, 2019

Sounds like he was not marked no hire or they wouldn’t be talking to him. Former boss feedback was not good, so this is just a situation where the potential new manager is doing due diligence and former manager was not positive. OP call former manager. Ask if he/she will support a rehire or not. HR would not block unless there was a performance issue.

You almost always have to reinterview because it’s a new team.

Remember you can file a lawsuit if you were unfairly marked as no hire- it’s not something you can do as a manager without a strong justification- leaving soon doesn’t mean you were a fraud or you performed badly so that is never used for marking no hire. I have personally seen people in my team (when I was a manager at amazon) leave - one of them left in 3 weeks and it was a voluntary resignation marked - I was unhappy but I wouldn’t mark a no hire. In another case an engineer left after 1 year (to google) and this engineer was actually hated by everyone and in the last 2 months he basically faked doing some work that was critical for compliance - and after a week of his leaving another engineer who reviewed found out his elaborate fraud - the team had to quickly stop the issue and resolve it. I was so annoyed that I went to HR to see if I can get that person marked as “no hire” , HR flatly denied and said that it’s not possible, so here I am stuck as a manager - unable to actually punish those who should be punished.

Thank you for this. It’s very insightful. I am sorry for what you are going through...

if the boss sucked, should have ex-coworkers who agree with you. have the HM talk to them too.
