Google CFO confirms 'large-scale' layoffs
Autocorrect dude. Calm down.
someone is overreacting
220 in Mountain View is more like 150 in Bellevue - so essentially they are offering you 40% less than what you make - and you are posting it as a question on Blind. I guess they made the right offer and you should really take it.
Did you hear what I said. I always really wanted to work for google. Finally my dream came true but I’m not happy with TC. Shall I place a rock on my chest and take it or pass.
Looks like people are telling you not to take it. I’d get another couple of offers and ask them to fairly adjust according to cost of living. If you can personally justify the lowball offer then take it. At the end of the days you’re still in the top 5% of world income (yeah yeah Bay Area CoL I know). On the other hand, if your current manager and team situation is great at Amazon, you probably shouldn’t switch
Lmao, they should increase your current package by 20% just so that you can keep somewhat similar lifestyle, this is Seattle to Mountain View shift. Honestly when they lowballed me (numbers similar to you) about 6 years ago, I told them that I can’t justify that to my family that I support... Lowballing is basically laughable practice and an insult to you as a professional, if they disrespect you like this from the beginning, you can’t expect better treatment later, only worse...
Can you elaborate on it. Do you mean I’ll be treated bad by my manager at google because he got me cheap? I thought it was a function of how well I perform. Sorry can you elaborate what you mean here. I really wanna know.
Btw I’m single. No kids.
And offering an Amazon L6 an L4 positions is beyond laughable, that level of arrogance I’ve only seen in old Microsoft, Google is basically becoming what Microsoft used to be many years ago...
I applied for L5. They down leveled me at HC even after very strong interviews.
Tell them you really want to work for them and how it was always your dream, but tell them that you need to make at the very least as much as you’re already making (which is your current package + 20% for moving to Mountain View), explain that you don’t care about the money that’s why you’re not seeking higher level or higher compensation, since this opportunity is more important to you than money....
TC is fine. But level???
OP, did you try negotiating it yet? Maybe you gave away that you’ve always wanted google and that’s why they’re doing this? Can you ask to work in Seattle for this TC?
I did give that away. It was silly of me. I’m already team matched in MTV. The comp negotiation happened after team matching. I would love to stay in Seattle but my recruiter is saying it’s too late now.
I don’t think this is a bad thing. They know you want it. Now just go back and tell them that they know how passionate you are about working for google, but your current job is stable and you need an offer more competitive with your existing salary. It’s hard ball, they might say no, but you probably shouldn’t take it without trying. Even if you lose it.
MBA grad come into Amazon as L6 PM so the L6 in PM world is really just an entry level. And that’s why you’d rarely see any L5 PM in Amazon. Leveling to google L4 is not a massive downgrade to be honest, I know of well-published assistant professors went to google as L4. But I agree, the compensation is in the lower end, but I wouldn’t drill on it too much if I am single and no kid. Would your life be substantial better if google had offered you 40k more? I guess not at all.
If they low balled you this hard and you’re still considering it then looks like their recruiters are doing a good job 😂🤢
Not a math guy huh
Lol. I always wanted to work for google.
This is the reason Google gets away with low-balling engineers. Stand your ground and ask for what you want.
