amazon vs Google

1. Between Amazon & Google, who has harder interview process when it comes to the behavioral side (14 principles, Googliness etc). 2. Does behavior interview gets harder by increasing level of responsibility (e.g, level 5 vs level 7, Amazon ) or the difference is minimal since we are talking about ”values”.

I’m gonna guess Amazon cause well Google doesn’t care as much about it.

Amazon for most roles, but the leadership principals are a wild card that could (and do) fuck really strong candidates.

Can you elaborate on this? Currently interviewing there now

Amazon was a very hard interview personally and I was interviewing for a level 6 position. I was totally exhausted after the 6 rounds + portfolio and whiteboarding session. Never interviewed at google.

Amazon weeReturns Dec 26, 2019

This was me too. My AWS interview was harder than my Microsoft and Google interviews.

Amazon readme.q Dec 26, 2019

Same here , l6 loop was intensive

LinkedIn himortgage Dec 26, 2019

Amazon was pretty trivial

VS? Also, what was the type of role you interviewed for? (PM, Tech, Dev, BD etc.)

LinkedIn himortgage Dec 26, 2019

Dev AWS L6

Google is more difficult in the behavioral interview. I've seen some posts along that said they didn't get an offer because of no "culture fit" I think it comes down to which one you can prepare for. Amazon gives you the list of principles so you can plan accordingly. For Google it's a wild card!

Frankly, the same Amazon 14 principles apply @ Google & must other large companies too. with some minor additions; e.g., incremental value for Google would emphasis on not hiring extreme jerks (while Amazon may be relatively ok with it).

Facebook C+Plus Dec 26, 2019

Yeah, googliness is basically fancy way of saying #nojerks. Obviously some get in anyway, but it's a decent filter.

How did you guys ever pass a test in school, if preparing for pre-defined questions (LPs) is so hard?

Amazon readme.q Dec 28, 2019

Oh trust me - those questions and details are hardcore - each lp has a couple of good questions that will throw you a curve ball in directions you didn’t see coming. Did you try to do an amazon interview onsite? (Sde1/new grad doesn’t count)

Microsoft MyJob12 Dec 28, 2019

Oh yes. I wouldn't criticize without experience. I got an offer for L6 role 2 years ago, but didn't take it. Interviewed again recently to a different team and got a much better offer, joining in February.

Capco dmodemd Dec 27, 2019

I found both interviews to be about the same and I got the same result on both: strong hire but downlevel. (G-L6, A-L7)

You interviewed for a l8 and got down leveled to l7? Did you take one?

Capco dmodemd Dec 27, 2019

Sorry, more like this: TPM, interviewed Google at L5 but thought I would be put into L6 loop. So I easily got L5. Amazon I interviewed for L7 and got L6. Took Amazon (Google still no TM yet). It was as I expected: I didn't have enough experience with very large scale systems but they feel I could be a quick promote if I prove myself and they gave me the role to do that.
