I see in amazon there is a constant fear of pip/pivot and we devs often joke around that its a FDD ( fear driven development).

How different is the culture in other companies like Microsoft, Google?

Reputation of facebook isn't good either, is the culture similar to amzn?

Read a recent article which put facebook and amazon in the category of company which doesnt hesitate to fire.

Msft and google in the category where once hired, you get a sense of calm and peace. There is no swod hanging on your neck, promoting a culture of innovation. Is that true?

  • You have to really mess up to be fired at Microsoft. It's usually a rest and vest place

When I was at Microsoft, the teams I worked on mainly used Windows workstations as our dev boxes. Teams that specifically develop for MacOS (most notably Office for MacOS) use Macs, of course, but I'm not sure if anyone else does.

Managers at MSFT have too much power, which is good or bad depending on whether you click with yours or not. FB and Google, on the contrary, have more fair and transparent promo system by limiting managers role in hiring and promotions. So rule of thumb, if you want a promo shortcut by minimizing work and good at working your manager, go to MSFT. If you are technically strong and good at delivering real impact, go to FB or Google.
