Instacart's future after recent chaos with doordash and uber?

Aug 12, 2021 236 Comments

Hello blinders,
Was excited to join instacart soon but the recent news where the talks fell with doordash and uber is making me little uncomfortable to join. Does company doesn't believe in itself? Also some contracts with big retailer are getting expired soon.
I am really worried about instacart's future.
Any insights from fellow intacartian would really help.

Thanks.

It clearly shows you haven’t worked at so many companies. Like many fb employees, you don’t know how good you have it. Facebook is not perfect, but it’s a pretty good place.

Perm issue is precisely a legal issue, as someone mentioned above. I understand you’re affected by it, but what can the company do other than follow the legal procedures? Do you think Facebook likes to be in this position? It’s clearly putting it in a disadvantage, so the company interests are aligned with yours.

    • Yeah Mark’s pretty damn transparent as much as I imagine one in his position can be (ie legal matters aside). I remember sitting in a Q&A behind Sheryl once and he was rattling off numbers he said were confidential and she was freaking out 😂 Coughing and signaling for him to “cut it.”

What we know, you probably know. What you don’t know but we do know, we really can’t tell you. This is a case where you need to do your own information gathering and decide by yourself. Sorry, man.

Does Insta still have a 1 year cliff?
      Sep 10, 2021
    • Don’t join just for the RSU policy. Doordash did the opposite and removed even the 1 year cliff. Your rsu vest immediately every quarter . If you can clear IC with little hard work you can clear any company you wish to join. I have nothing against Ic. This new RSU seems really bad if many folks reject they would change it.

  • What is why Instacart changed to a clawback rsu policy this year.

You have to sink with Instacart and have no chance to jump the ship.

It makes me wondering what were the signs before Uber laid off a bunch of people, all of a sudden? I don't believe any other companies can be like Airbnb who gave its employees 3 months to find another job while keep paying them

This is an inherently bad business model. Read up on it.

Engineers are horrible investors on average. Ask any reasonable investor. Uber, Dash, etc are not investable. Commodity biz. No brand nothing. The only hope for Instacart is building their own infrastructure and warehouses and sell their own goods. But they have to prove they can get to this stage first
