i have applied for few positions at waymo but never been able to get an interview. any ideas to secure an interview at waymo or any other electric/self driving compnies? i have over 8 years of experience in automotive
I was approached by Waymo and did phone interview with recruiter and hiring manager. After that the recruiter called me and asked my salary expectation and lowballed severely, so I stopped pursuing further
Yes, Waymo base is below market for some reason
I've heard that may change soon. Not Waymo employee.
Maybe within Google, high paying jobs or increased budgets might move more towards orgs like cloud which ensures competitive edge in the market for Google. And projects with lesser chance of success today, ie which are not exactly moonshots yet nowhere in a state to be made into businesses will get lesser funds. And this trend might continue at the same pace or accelerate with Sundar in charge of whole alphabet? Or has this transfer of responsibilities to Sundar been in motion for a while now already? 🤔
If Waymo clicks, Google will look like such a small business in comparison. Not sure why they are low balling.. probably all the Google engineers might be doing an internal transfer.
I’m not sure this is a reasonable assumption. Google pulls in a lot more profit than GM.
GM (outside of cruise) and Waymo are targeting completely different industries. One manufactures cars to sell to customers. The other intends to operate a point-to-point transportation service that happens to use autonomous vehicles. Not sure why you'd compare them when your own company is the more apt comparison.
a lot of my friends at Waymo aren’t incredibly happy. Maybe consider yourself lucky. Sometimes everything looks better on the outside.
What don't they like about it?
Wondering as well. About to interview there for an on-site.
I have seen with Waymo that even if job description matches with the work you have done, I have never been able to secure an interview. I have got calls from most of the other self driving companies except Waymo. Probably requires a good referral.
